Research points to unhappy Londoners

Every day, nearly three-quarters of workers in London think about changing jobs.

Recruitment agency rating firm Hirescores.com surveyed more than 1,600 people across the country and discovered that workers in the capital are less happy with their jobs than any others.

Seventy-four per cent daydream about different employment every day. Londoners are closely followed in the misery stakes by the South East in general.

The nation’s happiest workforce is in the rural South West, where only 11 per cent say they are unhappy enough to consider changing job on a daily basis.

Second most contented at work are the Scots, the survey revealed.

Lisette Howlett, Hirescores’ MD, said: “Despite its pockets of wealthy areas and high-paying jobs, it looks as though London is a place where the majority of workers are actually unhappy with their current employment.

“This may be due to a combination of factors such as the high cost of living, potentially poor work-life balance, and current uncertainty about jobs due to the sudden financial downturn.”

The table of discontent reads as follows:

London – 74%
South East – 69%
Northern Ireland – 51%
North East – 48%
Midlands – 36%
Wales – 32%
North West – 27%
Scotland – 18%
South West – 11%
